What You’ll Need Before Getting Started
-
Your FRAMEO WiFi Digital Photo Frame
: This guide works for all FRAMEO models, including the 10.1-inch basic, 15.6-inch large screen, and 21.5-inch wall-mountable options. -
A Compatible SD Card
: We recommend a 32GB SD card (or smaller) formatted to FAT32 or exFAT—most new SD cards come pre-formatted, but we’ll cover how to check later if needed. -
A Computer (Optional)
: If you need to transfer photos from your laptop to the SD card first, you’ll need a card reader or a computer with an SD card slot. -
Clean Cloth (Optional)
: To wipe off any dust from the SD card slot—better safe than sorry!
Where to Find the SD Card Slot on Different FRAMEO Models
| FRAMEO Model | SD Card Slot Location | Slot Cover Type | Insertion Tip |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10.1-inch Basic (WiFi, IPS Touchscreen) | Right side of the frame, near the bottom edge | Small rubber flap (pulls open gently) |
Gold contacts face down when inserting |
| 15.6-inch Large Screen (FHD Resolution) | Back of the frame, below the power button | Sliding plastic cover (slides to the left to open) |
Gold contacts face toward the frame |
| 21.5-inch Wall-Mountable (Dual WiFi, Auto-Rotate) | Bottom edge of the frame, centered | No cover—slot is exposed but recessed |
Insert straight in until you feel a soft click |
Step 1: Power Off Your FRAMEO Digital Photo Frame Safely
To turn it off: Press and hold the power button (usually on the back or side of the frame) for 2-3 seconds until the screen goes black. If your frame has a touchscreen, you can also go to
Settings > Power > Shut Down
from the main menu. Wait 10 seconds to make sure it’s fully powered down before moving to the next step.
Step 2: Locate and Prepare the SD Card Slot
Take a quick peek at the slot to make sure there’s no dust or lint inside. If you see any, use a clean, dry cloth (or a can of compressed air, if you have one) to gently wipe it out. Even a tiny speck of dust can stop the SD card from being recognized, so this step is worth the extra 30 seconds.
Step 3: Prepare Your SD Card (Important!)
Formatting the SD Card
: If your SD card is brand new, it’s probably already formatted to FAT32, which is what FRAMEO prefers. But if you’ve used the card in a camera or phone before, it might be formatted to exFAT or NTFS. To check (and reformat if needed):
1. Plug the SD card into your computer using a card reader.
2. On Windows: Open “File Explorer,” right-click the SD card drive, and select “Properties” to check the format. If it’s not FAT32, right-click again and choose “Format,” then select FAT32 from the dropdown.
3. On Mac: Open “Disk Utility,” select the SD card from the left menu, click “Erase,” and choose “MS-DOS (FAT)” as the format.
Pro Tip
: Always back up photos on the SD card before formatting—this will erase everything! Once formatted, copy your photos onto the card. FRAMEO supports JPG and PNG image files, and some models even play short MP4 videos. Organize them into folders if you want (e.g., “2023 Summer Vacation,” “Grandkids’ Birthdays”)—the frame will read subfolders and display all photos.
Step 4: Insert the SD Card into the Frame
down
or
toward the frame
. Slide the card into the slot gently—you should feel a slight resistance, but it shouldn’t require force. If it feels stuck, stop and check the direction—you might have it backwards.
Push the card in until it clicks into place. On models with a slot cover, close it back up (rubber flap or sliding cover) to keep dust out. Now you’re ready to power the frame back on!
Step 5: Power On and Access Your SD Card Photos
1. On the touchscreen, tap the “Albums” or “Photos” icon (it looks like a small picture frame or stack of photos).
2. Look for an option labeled “SD Card” or “External Storage”—tap that.
3. You’ll see all the photos and folders on your SD card. Tap a folder to start a slideshow, or tap individual photos to view them full screen.
If you don’t see the SD card option right away, try restarting the frame. Sometimes it takes a second reboot to detect the card. You can also go to “Settings > Storage” to check if the frame recognizes the SD card—if it shows the storage size (e.g., 31.9GB free), you’re good to go!
Step 6: Organize and Customize Your SD Card Photos
Slideshow Settings
: Go to “Settings > Slideshow” to choose how fast photos change (5 seconds, 10 seconds, etc.), add transitions (fade, slide), or even play background music (if your frame supports it).
Sorting Photos
: Want photos to display in order by date? Rename your photo files with dates (e.g., “2023-10-05-Beach.jpg”) and the frame will sort them automatically. Or create folders for different events, and the frame will cycle through each folder.
Setting a Favorite Photo as Wallpaper
: Find a photo you love, tap and hold it, then select “Set as Wallpaper.” Now that photo will show when the frame is idle—perfect for highlighting that special family portrait.
Step 7: Safely Remove the SD Card (When Needed)
1. Press and hold the power button until the screen turns off.
2. Open the slot cover (if your model has one).
3. Gently push the SD card in—you’ll feel a spring, and the card will pop out slightly. Then pull it out slowly.
Never remove the SD card while the frame is on or while photos are loading. This can corrupt the card or even damage the frame’s internal components. It’s like taking a DVD out of a player while it’s running—bad news!
– Label the SD card with a sticker: “Family Photos 2023” so they know what’s on it.
– Pre-sort photos into folders with simple names: “Holidays,” “Grandkids,” “Pets.”
– Show them how to switch between SD card and FRAMEO app photos: It’s usually just a tap on “Albums” and then “SD Card” or “App Photos.”
– Remind them to power off before removing the card—maybe write a little note and stick it on the back of the frame!
